Social Downfall

HOvA

Thanks to every single person who read last weeks blog.  It 100% made it worth it to come back.  Did I get some anxiety thinking about the follow up?  No.  Did I change the subject content?  Yes (thanks Karl!)

So this was going to be about social media etiquette.  But it was going to be a stretch to write an entire blog about how I don't actually watch all the Snapchat videos if you post more than four in a row (seriously, just calm it down.  And if you ask why, I'm borderline OCD and if I watch one I have to watch them all...so if you look at your viewers and see I "saw" 27 videos in a row, I did not.  Also that's why I deleted people on Snap, it's too time consuming for my borderline OCD self!).

Also I love when I see people who don't like each other type the crying laughing emoji at the other persons stuff or say "I'm dyyyyyyyying!" and then immediately text their bro about how crappy that person is.  Seriously.  (I hate "I'm dying!" it's just as bad as lol.  Just know if I respond with a haha or any more ha's added on, I legit am laughing.  Also I hope I get some I'm dyyyyyyyying comments on this, please!  Lol).

The other topic in that blog clearly was the Facebook purge, but I don't think it's a good idea to go too in-depth, but I'll explain quickly.  If you want to get to the funny just pass by the italicized part!

To get my thoughts out of the way, if I deleted anybody I got rid of them because 1. I randomly had a training with you in 2013 and you were super cool, but I don't really want to keep in touch.  And I'm not comfortable with you seeing my kids grow.  2.  You're a friend or acquaintance from college that kinda/sorta/is a racist, sexist, homophobic, or all of the above (raxiphobic!?)  Or we just lost touch...and that's fine!  I'll see you at a future D Days, it's no big deal!  3.  This is the hard to write one.  It's touchy!  I deleted some because I didn't want to argue or feel sad when I logged on Facebook.  It doesn't mean we can't get along in public, but last year I was getting really sad/angry logging in and was just over it, life is hard enough, so I quit Facebook for 2 months.  I got on begrudgingly because I missed my friends, just to notice not as many really use FB anymore so....

Also the only person I wouldn't publicly like to be around actually deleted ME because he was making fun of people in a group chat for wearing masks and dying from covid, you gotta love that out of a state representative amiright (also leave trans kids alone you dick)?!  So I personally messaged him and told him it's not funny, he replied with a thumbs up emoji, which I could write a blog on how much I hate those, then he deleted me like a wuss.  End of story.  Fin.

And we're back!  And I doubt anyone actually skipped over that, but it is what it is.  So read the next part in a Jon Oliver voice....today we're going to talk about HOA's.  And what exactly that means to me as an adult.  Just kidding, HOA's are perfectly fine.  We're going to be discussing the best part of being an adult, FACEBOOK NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS (and why being an adult is weird)!!!

So being an adult is funny.  The older you get, you realize that literally everyone is just winging it.  Nobody knows what they are doing, let's be honest.  And if you say you do, you're a liar.  Do you know what an escrow is?  I guarantee half of you reading this don't.  But the BEST entertainment is to see how childish and stupid people can be in these neighborhood groups.

So much arguing and petty crap, it's great!  Some dude had his signs stolen off his front lawn, let's say he was a big supporter of arguably the worst president of all time.  So like a normal adult he goes on and blames a political party for stealing signs when, get this, it was just kids stealing signs.  All of the signs.  No matter the party.  So he blames liberals, but calls them the lib part with tards at the end (what a horrible word by the way, can you just not?) and buys a flag so his sign doesn't get stolen.  A gynormous flag of his candidate, then brags about it...like a child.  Also who buys a flag as an adult of a person!?

And the Karen's...oh the Karen's who go on and complain about kids walking at night...who must've forgot at one point they were kids walking at night.  Have you seen these hooligans walking through the neighborhood at 8:45 PM tonight!?  They are ringing doorbells and running away!  THE TYRANNY!  This joke is for my newfound friend Taylor, but kids used to light literal crap on fire and put it on doorsteps, you're fine.

I feel bad for anyone named Karen who is actually nice, because there are so many awful people who have ran with that name.  Someday I would like to explore why some older people are the way they are and why the boomers ruined things for everyone...I'd be afraid to type that part, but they can't find their Wi-Fi password to get online anyway so....

I think the craziest part of being an adult was I foolishly thought adults would be more mature when I was younger.  But they aren't.  The majority of you work who are reading this.  How much drama and workplace gossip goes on that could be entirely avoided?  Are people super bored or do they need the drama to make their life mean something?

I have amazing work stories...that I'll share at some point that just don't sound real.  That's how dramatic they are.  And it boggles my mind.  Just go work.  It makes me tempted to write a Kleeman Report how I used to, and just go all out.  For the people from the beginning who got the email version of the Kleeman Report, remember those days?  My next blog I'm going to share a random (safe) edition of those and see the differences.  Yes, that's my next blog.

I'm going to leave on that note, with the anticipation of you, the reader, wondering what happened in 2007 to my group of friends.  Get your flip phones, crank some T Pain and get your best Ed Hardy gear, we're going back in time.

Til next time.

I'm Back

Hi!  I'm Jeff, remember me?  I used to write a blog called The Kleeman Report (then just Kleeman Report...I may have let my domain name lapse, long story, but I bought it back so...we're good!).  I love writing.  I love thinking of funny crap to talk about.  But the past few years...

I have done 3 blogs since 2019.  3.  Blogs.  That's insane right?  I love writing, so what happened exactly?  Kids, I'll blame the kids.  It's strictly the kids fault.  It's not that the past 2 years have been absolutely bonkers.  Covid.  Political stuff (don't worry this blog isn't political).  Moving to a new city/state/zip.  Writers block was a definite issue.  Binge watching TV shows and watching movies to unwind (we have 8 streaming services, we're in a golden age of television).  Hanging with my spouse during "the kids are sleeping" times.  Reading an actual book (I'm reading East of Eden right now, it's insanely good, so far I give it 9/10 Jeff's).  Dealing with a pseudo mid-life crisis (isn't everybody these days?).

Okay so it was all of the above MINUS the kids...although using kids as an excuse to get out of doing things are one of the biggest perks of having them.  I just haven't had the drive to write these blogs the past two years.  Even writing a Facebook post that might be controversial or opinionated gets texts sent my way wanting to argue or say I'm wrong.  I legit went through Facebook and deleted half of my friend list.  I'll explain more on that in a later blog, but I just haven't had the drive to write.

But then last week I thought of something funny concerning parenting and I really wanted to write about it.  Then I thought of more funny stuff.  And I was like, "Crap, I have enough for a blog!".  Then a week later I finally found time to write about it while my kids are sleeping.  You can't rush brilliance!  So I'm back.  The Kleeman Report is back.  I'm going to have some fun again.

I now give you...the original title I was going to name this blog...it's what my album name would be as a parent:

My Car Smells Like Puke ft Poop

*anytime I post a blog about parenthood to be funny, there's always someone who always thinks I'm serious.  Just come here to laugh folks.

So my car smells like puke (not poop so much...at the moment).  The funny thing is I actually don't mind.  Is that weird?  So after I drop my kids off to daycare, I miss them right?  And I open up my car door and just the best damn puke smell money can buy.  But seriously, the craziest thing about parenthood is my ability to not be grossed out by anything.  Poop.  Puke.  Boogers.  I have developed super powers and cannot be stopped.

Speaking of super powers, children's television sure is something right?  So the shows aren't as bad as people think.  Plus if you don't plop them in front of a TV constantly (oh I'm judging lazy parents, damn right I am) they actually kinda just chill and get quiet.  So crank that Baby Shark.  Get Fancy with Nancy.  Get me that Coco Melon...super power number two, I have memorized every single theme song from these shows.  They will never leave me.  Vampirina?  I got that down.  Team Oomizoomi?  Sure.  I collect classic vinyl's, let's get a "best of" children's themes right now.

So one super power I don't have.  Patience with laundry.  Does laundry ever end?  I would hate to have it calculated how much I've done laundry in the past 4 years, but I'm going to expect it's been 5 months minimum.  I should just hire someone to do my laundry, but that's not a thing is it?  I'm an adult!

But seriously what is a Coco Melon?  Or a Pinkfong?  Why didn't my friends and I come up with something like this years ago?  I can combine two things that don't make sense, here's a couple names, someone can steal them I don't care:

- PillowFart

- RandomWhy

- WestBanana

- Doobie Smacker

- Social Downfall

Also I never thought I'd say this because I love music so much.  But when my kids are at daycare and I'm randomly home, or they are asleep...oh my god the best noise is pure quiet.  I would rather hear absolutely nothing, no noise, then the new Glass Animals album right now...and I freaking love Glass Animals.  And so do my kids actually.  Winning.

Kids who are having tantrums are essentially the same as your buddy who is black out drunk.

"Come on bud, just go take a nap...sleep it off and you'll be fine."

"I know you're hungry, but you don't need anymore pizza.  Maybe have some water?"

"No, you can't put on a tutu over another tutu while wearing a tutu on your head...and where did you get so many tutus?!"

Also I think the funniest thing about being a parent is dinner time.  Kids at dinner time are like me looking for a snack late at night.  I'm really hungry but nothing sounds good.

Speaking of hungry, I'm about to go figure that out, so thank you for reading!  This felt nice.  This was a good test run for my soon to be award winning blog about social media and why it sucked the life out of me the past few years.  It will be more unfiltered like the old blogs, so that'll be really good AND really bad.

Maybe I'll do some of those fun music blogs after that, I think I need to do a Best/Biggest/Favorite with Ras and cover either Kriss Kross or Van Halen's best song...but the only answer for both is Jump.

Thanks everybody!

Jeff

Goodbye Vermillion

FULL DISCLOSURE: I wrote this blog in mid-June...but I still stand by every thing I wrote, I have just been debating if I release this one ore not?  You be the judge, read through and see if I should have posted this or kept it to myself...have fun!

Hey so this is fun!  A blog!  It's been a really long time.  The last one I wrote was in December of 2019, one of those really easy music blogs I do with my friends Ras and Opp.  Super time consuming, but still fun.  But....nobody reads those so I decided to take a break from blogging.

The one I wrote previously to that one, which was bonkers to reminisce about is this one: RIGHT HERE, about how weird my life was in 2018.  I enjoyed writing it, although one person told me that year wasn't that much crazier than most...how many people meet their dad, have a local election end up with the highest tie vote in a states history AND get offered a TV show?  Throw in all the horribly sad things that also happened that year I didn't discuss, as well as how crazy my wife's pregnancy was...and yeah, that person is an idiot (you can text me if you read this, it's you lol, idiot).

So fast forward to now.  So I've had two ideas for this Vermillion blog since before I moved.  One was going to involve me time traveling from now to 2016 and explaining what would happen to the 2016 version of me.  Only problem is one year is covered in the blog post above.  So I'm basically writing 1/4th of the same story.  Plus some of that is super painful to write about again.  Then I'd have to cover how society is awful and how/why did people think voting for Trump was a good idea...end result the blog would be the size of War & Peace.

So the way I would've had to write that was basically like a novel, which nobody reads those, it's too much reading as I stated above, this is probably too much reading for most already.  Also I'm not getting paid for this, it's for fun, so what way to make that idea fun!?

The second idea was like a run off of like, F U's about some stuff and people I didn't enjoy.  But that's so negative.  Plus, if you're reading this there's a good chance you are on FB.  I deleted about 400 people off that, so good chance I like you if you got access to this, besides the few people I have to keep for non-drama starting reasons, which that's an article for another day.  I think I played it sort of safe here, there's still a few people up there that really suck.  If you want to know who just text me, I have no problems telling you that.

(I will say the following...daycare providers (and their husband) who talk crap about the kids who go there and about the parenting done by people are complete trash.  Maybe stimulate the kids with more than TV and you might not have kids being bored and acting out.  We're not perfect parents, but I do think being a good parent is a strong talent of mine.  Oh and my kids are great.  And having a business, one that deals with kids, maybe don't gossip about them because your life is so boring?  So in all seriousness, do better.)

(Following continued, Vermillion is a great town.  And it's a great town to raise kids in.  And a lot of great people.  But there were some people there that...man, my god.  I'm not going to publicly say who or give hints as I also stated above, but man...we had to move.  I won't discuss it here because it's not the forum, we also met  a TON of great people so our time wasn't all that bad...the couple swap rumors are really weird though and so much fakeness...so so much).

So anyway, how do I write this blog?  Boom, I know!  Quick highlights or thoughts from those 4 years that I was going to write about.  So my thoughts will be sporadic so I'm just going to write what comes to my mind.  So here we go!

- 2016...the first thing I was going to discuss, the USD thing.  I'm sure most know who are reading this, when I got my  job at USD I thought I was all done.  Boom, stay til I'm retired, move up along the way.  I was actually working at Mount Marty at that time, it wasn't a tough decision to leave.  You don't make that much money there and they want long hours, USD was a cool 8-5 and I knew that place like the back of my hand...except I didn't know to not work for the department I found a job with.  Pure hell.

Crappy boss, horrible environment.  First time in my life I was depressed because it wasn't working.  And nothing at USD is ever fixed.  The boss had numerous complaints and got a slap on the wrist and eventually reassigned to a different dept (if you want a hint who it is, think a smoker who looks like Justin Bieber aged worse than he actually has).  The HR department is worthless (I've heard maybe improvements since?  But it's USD so...).  And there are numerous jerks in each dept (but that's everywhere...).  I tried finding other jobs with USD and I think was basically blacklisted for a bit?  But I did get one with Health Sciences that would've been fun.  I didn't get it, but I was extremely thankful for the chance to interview.

So then I decided to take my time finding something good.  But there isn't much there...unless you commute, which we'll get to that in a second.  It's not that there isn't opportunity, because there is, but I wanted a job that was "important" but rewarding.  I looked in to real estate, that wasn't gonna happen.  Had a few things I could've done in Sioux City, but commuting wasn't a priority with a newborn.

So it was a job roller coaster.  Not one I wanted.  So luckily my buddy hired me to work from home while I could find something (thanks John!).  First was oddly State Farm.  So I worked there through 2017 and it was weird.  I actually took the insurance test, ha, and I missed the test...missing by exactly one point two times.

During one of those tests I made the finals of a reality show called Beat Shazam.  I met with the producer of the show, the one who produces with Jamie Foxx, which wtf right?  So when I was told I was going to Hollywood by the producer I actually budgeted winning the whole damn thing, because I'm that good at music knowledge where I expected to win.  And other people with the show were telling me Jerry Rice might be on it with me?  And of course during that time I had the chance to meet him in Vegas, so I had to do it in secret, then if I met Jerry on the show, I'd act like I had never met him, I doubt he would've remembered me, except I'm a 49'ers fan in South Dakota...so he found that just incredibly interesting...so that was running through my mind if I ever heard from the Shazam people.

Anyway, back on track, I waited one week, no response from the show, two weeks...nothing.  Then during that damn exam I missed by a point, I got a VM from Hollywood, CA.  Denied, but they said I was one of their greatest players ever, and when I watched the show they were absolutely right, most who made it were garbage. Also a funny audition story.

You audition by Skype, with an associate producer, so you are supposed to be excited, but they wanted me MORE excited.  I'm in a room next to my daughters crib, which she's clearly sleeping, it's late at night.  I have to literally scream I LOVE BEAT SHAZAAAAAAAAM as loud as possible.  Just insane to not get it and act like an idiot for some stranger on Skype.  I also had an audition for the Alec Baldwin Match Game, but you don't win anything and I wasn't too stoked to meet Caroline Rhea (although she seems really nice).

So State Farm couldn't keep me, which was absolutely fine.  I did get the caveat for a bit that my boss's name sounded like a porn name.  So that was fun.  So then I moved on to radio sales.  Ha, oh boy.  So the job wasn't that bad, and I really liked everyone there.  But getting anyone in Vermillion to do sales was like pulling teeth.  The company, and I, most likely thought I would kick ass at it because I knew everyone.  Especially after that election tie that I had.  Wrong.  But the only radio promotion, if any, anyone ever did was with a really crappy station that plays really crappy music.  Their DJ is named after a tool, which is fitting.

The one I worked for had 3 different routes and genres you could go with.  And none of them were a garbage 4th single from an Eagles record in 1975.  But I do have a few cool stories off of this.  1. I was the voice for a vaping store.  I 100% disagree with vaping, but hearing me say vape god the vape store was hilarious.  2. I got to do an advertisement for a gas station where I did a Rick Roll.  And it was fantastic.  Best ad I ever did.  3.  Cool boss.  That guy was awesome and he actually maybe/sorta pushed me in the direction of the TV show.

Full disclosure I'm not going to talk about the TV show much...I loved doing it while the actual show was happening.  Everything before and after was just not for me.  I'm gonna leave it at that.  I left on my own accord.  Dream job but some things are more important.

The commute was fine, except in the winter.  With one young kid and another on the way, it was always stressful during a bad winter, and with TV you have to give advanced notice, so if there's a snow storm the day of...you get ripped a new one.  The pay also wasn't worth it, being only PT.  I'll go more in-depth on it some day, just not now... I got some funny thoughts on it some other time if anyone really cares to hear about a daytime talk show basically about the Sioux Falls area.  Also whoever wrote in and complained about my hair sticking up, you're the worst.

So next the Treasurer's Office!  The weirdest job ever.  I didn't expect it to be so damn hard.  Every one in that office is underpaid.  It's the busiest job ever.  Not only do you get to do taxes and registrations for in county people...but people all over the country and...not in the country, register their vehicles there. Where does the money go?  Lol, who knows, gov't money so probably all to Kristi Noem's crappy daughter.  But what a learning experience.  I took it thinking we were staying in Vermillion, so I would learn about local gov't, the commute was 3 minutes, relatively stress free.

On the other end of that, so many people are rude, and if we were to stay in Vermillion I wouldn't have done it much longer just thinking about it.  So many out of state people were getting really bad, especially with covid, getting really upset about certain things.  And a lot of in county people, my god.  But seriously, every one in that office deserves a raise because it is WORK.  Get all of them more money now.

That's enough about jobs.  Actual Vermillion.  My wife and I got two awesome kids out of the deal.  We got some new friends.  Met a lot of awesome people (sure there were crap people as well, but that comes with the awesome), I also learned leaving essentially after 7 years that some people and things change and you might not get to hang out with them as much or kinda drift apart.  That was some added stress on my own end, thinking I'd jump right back in to how things were, and so much has changed. Especially if you have friends hanging out with dicks.  I got a lot closer with my aunt and uncle as well, even though I yelled at them that one time ; )

I really am going to miss my house as well, I learned so much there about home ownership and landscaping.  My daughter took her first steps there.  Tons of happiness, some tears, just a house full of memories.  I hope the people who moved in take care of my plants!

The four years were a huge blur.  I'm very happy I moved back.  I grew so much as a person moving back to Vermillion.  We were a lot closer for a lot of life events as well, which was good.  That being said, fours year later I feel it was the best time to move back to Lincoln, especially with every thing that's going on with covid.  We can get situated down here and get our new house ready.  There's literally a Target 5 minutes from here.  And sushi.  And a drive thru gas station, just living the dream.

Vermillion is in good hands.  The city leadership is good.  Some of the older people suck, especially the ones who ignored us in public after it was announced we were moving.  If they do it right and the right people stay in place the town will hopefully prosper as much as I think it will.

So that's it!  That's the blog.  It's long.  Sorry.  Oooooh that's right, one last thing.  Social media.  I left Facebook for 24 days, I tried for 100...I couldn't, sue me.

Reason for leaving.  Quite a few.  I see people conversing on there who tell me they hate the person they are conversing with, it's fake...and I'm guilty of it to.  Before I said I deleted a lot of people on FB, I honestly would do more if I could...and that's not good.   I have friends that I now or at one time considered to be really good, who post stupid garbage.  They won't wear a mask to not kill people because they think covid is the flu.  They think Trump is a swell guy.  Some are anti-vax (where'd you idiots go?)...all of those things are so undeniably wrong in every way.  I can't take it.  I have unfollowed so many propaganda pages on both sides that I have to hold a FB record.  It's exhausting and I need a break.

And it's not that I don't like differing opinions, if everyone shared the same opinion we would be living in the world that Trump dreams.  When you have a racist, sexist, narcissist in charge who has no repercussions for his actions, others will follow suit, people who that guy does not care about, but they are spreading his, and their, terrible message.  Hopefully the turnout to fight the negativity is a sign of things to come for November.  Getting him out is a start.  Getting new and innovative people in, on both sides, is next.  Or more than just two (lol that will never happen).

Also I just got back on FB last night and immediately saw a guy who likes to argue about stupid shit, arguing about stupid shit.   Which sucks I see his stuff, he actually deleted me so that was a quick regret logging on lol.

So if you care to say hey, or chat, give me a call or text, because FB will be at a minimum for now, I'm too busy working or watching kids anyway, you probably should be too.  But I'm never too busy to respond to a text or take a call to catch up.

Thanks for reading!  That was a fun ending, huh?  Do/Did I have more to write about?  Oh boy yes, but this was, as I stated earlier, getting to the length of War & Peace...so I'm going to...peace out.

I love my life, so the social media part sounded sad, but I'm not sad, or mad, I just really needed a break from it and some of the fake of that website.  The Verm stuff...that's just life man, there's ups and downs.  I'm really happy and really glad we moved, it's for the better.  I'll always love the town, but there won't be a 3rd move there.

Jeff

PS There won't be a 3rd move there, but if things get back to normal by summer 2021 I will be having the party I was planning on having in June be around that time...and boy after reading this, it might be awkward, huh?

The Best of 2019

Image result for music pictures funny

Look!  It's Yoda!  And he's cosplaying as Yo Yo Ma!  Music jokes!  Now where is the baby Yoda one!?  Look at me being super recent.  So anyways...

2019 has been a crazy/fantastic/nutso kinda year.  So many stories (that's for a future blog), so many concerts, events, weddings (definitely weddings), and so many life events (again, future blog).  The soundtrack for this year has been equally great.

2019 was also a very interesting year for music, one of the greatest years of music I've heard in quite sometime.  The soundtrack to this year was so good, every genre, even that damn Old Town Road song was dope...this year was so dope in music that I again enlisted the usual help in Brian Opp and Eric Rasmussen to assist me with this blog.

Per usual, I bend the rules with my list, if I heard it this year for the first time, I'm including it on my list (I seriously never heard Siouxsie and the Banshees before, they almost made it, but I didn't want to look like a poser...or poseur if you will...)

Also my list is what I personally enjoyed the most, so when you see the Jonas Boys (Brothers, Friends, Lovers?) on my list, judge away, I don't care, the song is fantastic.

Also with the other two dudes, they didn't write a review or why they picked what they did, they didn't have to, so I'll add in my two cents here and there.

So without further adieu, our top 10 of the year.

Brian "I See You" Opp

Brian Opp brought the incredible "across the board" selection as usual.  All genres are here except country...which makes Opp....well I guess not Rock N Roll (that's Ras), but...musically fluid...we'll go with that, Opp is musicall fluid.  Here is his top 10.

10.  Billie Eilish - Bad Guy

This song/artist is incredible, more on her later.

9. Lizzo - Juice

The only song to show up twice this year!  Yup, you guessed it, Ras definitely has this on his list.

8. Lizzo - Truth Hurts

Could've used a few new men on the Minnesota Vikings last Monday, amiright!?

7.  Vampire Weekend - Harmony Hall

6.  Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved

I was shocked to see this on the list, I'm not gonna lie.

5. Coldplay - Orphans

4. Dababy - Suge (Yea Yea)

3. Sofi Tukker - Purple Hat

I have to listen to this now....*editors note five minutes later, just listened, it's great.

2. Cage the Elephant - Ready to Let Go

1. Missio - I See You

I had never heard of this...ever. And that's why this list is so great!

Eric "Hurricane" Rasmussen

As usual, Ras brings it.  He is the rock maven of all the people I know (with Dino of course, list is...I think coming), so enjoy rocking out.

Side note, I had a conversation with Ras last week about rock being dead, what do you all think?  Is it!!?

10. SHVPES - One Man Army

9. Motionless In White - Another Life

Ras is on a complete roll and we're not even to number 6 yet.

8. Fever 333 - ANIMAL

7. Thousand Below - Chemical

6. Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster

Great song, but lets be honest, how many "unpopular" monsters are there?

5. Badflower - The Jester

Great band, I had never heard this song before.

4. Starfest - Manifest

This I had heard, and it is great.

3. Through Fire - All Animal

2. Tool - Pneuma

They are back!  They are back?  They might be back!?

1. I Prevail - Hurricane

Youtube has a version 1 and 2, I hope I picked the right one, Ras if I didn't, I will include both.

ALSO, Ras had so many songs I'm going to add all of them at a later date and time, just not now, I'm too tired.

Jeff "Good Luck" Kleeman

10. Beck - Star

Okay, so he almost didn't make my list for the first time in a while, but this is my favorite song on his new album, it's great.  Sue me.

9. Ed Sheeran ft Travis Scott - Antisocial

Okay, so why does Sheeren get so much hate?  I love this song.  I like Travis Scott (and man, you got in there with Kylie bro, good on ya).  I'll jam out to this, or really any Sheeren, dudes talented AF.

8. Tame Impala - Borderline

I've heard this so much lately because of my phone I almost didn't include it, but it's so damn good.

7.  Jonas Brothers - Only Human

Ah yes, the Jonas Bizzoys.  I love this song.  It's catchy as all hell.

6. Lizzo - Juice

I got two separate texts, one from Opp and one from Brad, who are equally my musical taste, um, equivalents?  But anyway, a female Prince is what Brad said, and he wasn't wrong.  Opp said, and I quote, "She's good".  Again, not wrong.

5. Pvris - Hallucinations

This band constantly surprises me, always really catchy ass songs.  So good.

4. Billie Eilish - You Should See Me In a Crown

Billie Eilish is so good that my wife and I are going to see this 18 year old girl in concert and easily be the 4th oldest people there after a camera guy and a janitor.
I first heard of her watching an NXT Takeover and had to find this song immediately.  Not Billie is "taking over"...wow.

3. BORNS - Sweet Dreams

Catchy.  Awesome.  BORNS doesn't get enough credit, BORNS deserves to have more credit.  CREDIT.

2. Matt Maeson - Cringe

Chris Rider sent me this song.  Not his usual vibe, and boy was he right.  Fantastic song.

1. Broken Bells - Good Luck

And my number 1.  My Nelly ft the Aerosmith (properly rated Brian Opp), guy (Joe Perry)...#1.
I love Broken Bells, it's my favorite Shins side projects/Danger Mouse side ish project band.... it's so catchy.  I can't wait for the rest of the album.

And there you have it!  A blog!  My first in ever!  I'd like to thank Ras and Opp for the contributions per the usual.  My next blog will be sooner than later.  It'll either be the most overrated/underrated musical acts....OR....the best 4 hit wonders ever....OR....all that's happened in 2019 and what will happen in 2020....but I can promise you this...at some point by April, all 3 of those will be written at some point.

Also I'd like to thank my kids for behaving well enough for me to write this blog, I think this is the fastest I've ever wrote (written, it's a joke that I misspelled it) a blog.  And thanks to my wife for watching them in this time...now I must help my daughter get a Cinderella dress on, and maybe we'll listen to the band Cinderella as well.

Bye for now...thanks for reading.

Me.

My Year Has Been Crazier Than Yours

Well if this blog isn't a sight for sore eyes!  I haven't written a blog since Trump was just pretending to not be a racist.

The reason I haven't written a blog in a while?  So much.  Two kids.  A job where I shouldn't be making jokes about our racist president.  Lack of motivation to write one.  The fact I write this blog for free and couldn't think of anything good to write about OR I thought of something great to write about and circumstances happened that put it on the back burner.

I used to love writing this blog.  Then I didn't and it became a chore, the break was needed.  Now I'm back!  For now!  As I alluded to earlier, I haven't written one since September.  Think about all that's happened in between.  Not about me, we'll get to that, but all that's happened to you.  You've had a pretty wild ride.  Some highs.  Some lows.  But as the title of this blog so blatantly states, nobody has had a year like me.

Where should I start?  I'm going to cheat a little, I'm going to start with last June.  To the way back machine.  Did you know I tied a local election!?  If you know me, probably.  188 to 188.  City council.  It was decided by drawing a name out of a bowl.  With TV cameras and photographers there.  Watching a drawing...for a political race...where 376 people took the time to vote for a candidate and it came down to drawing a name out of a bowl.

Image result for jeff kleeman south dakota

Think I'm lying!?  Go ahead.  Click it.  It took 3 weeks to decide a winner.  That's crazy.  But maybe all elections should come down to some form of this.  The electoral college is outdated, change it to rock, paper, scissors.  Out of my tie, people were jokingly saying ways to decide the victor, beer pong, maybe flip (tippy) cup, running after chickens!?  I'm down for deciding elections like that.  The system is flawed, but it did prove that your vote counts...sometimes.  That's the last I'll bring this up until I make a self deprecating joke about it.

AND THAT'S THE MOST BORING PART OF MY STORIES FROM LAST YEAR!!  (Also do away with the two party format while we're on the topic of stupid politics.)

So that story alone would be fun for a year recap story.  You were hopefully entertained.  I left you wanting more...well, did you meet your dad last year?

No?  You know who did?  Me.

Yeah.  I did the old ancestry.com thing, and holy crap it worked.  I was under the assumption that my dad was this white trash idiot, with an even trashier family, never met the guy but I'm 100% certain I'm not wrong (it'd be higher if mathematically possible).  So I joined ancestry to see if anyone would match with me, see if I had siblings (for those not in the know, it was just my mom and I growing up, no siblings, no dad, some questionable boyfriends of hers for sure), and in the back of my mind, maybe the off chance that someone else would match...well guess the f what!?

I matched with this kind lady named June.  She popped up as a match as my aunt on my way back from a fun Kansas City trip (that story is next).  I messaged this June lady.  She had two brothers.  Holy shit, it could be one of them.  WTF.  Right?  Yeah, it ended up being one of them because one did the test, I think the other lied and said he did, cuz he's never popped up on that site, thanks a lot "uncle".  (Quick aside, it had to be super weird for two random guys to hear this 36 years later, but welcome to my world, amiright?)

Moving along, talked to the guy on the phone, super nice guy.  He might disagree with my comments on the president above, but nobody is perfect.  Hopefully I get to meet him in person next year?  See you all in Deadwood maybe (it's my favorite place on earth).  This year nothing else is happening besides weddings, bachelor parties, and oh yeah... we had a second kid!

So one year tally so far, let's recap.  Tied an election that was covered on the news.  Figured out who my dad was and talked to him (thanks for the Christmas gift btw if you're reading, I forgot to thank you bro!), and then kid number 2 on the way.  We already have one amazing kid, our daughter, she's awesome...so of course we'd want a boy.  Did we get a boy?  F'ing right we got a boy.  Most likely made in KC,MO (where I saw my favorite teams quarterback get knocked out for the season in what was supposed to be their comeback year....).  Named him after my grandpa, who isn't my real grandpa, but was like my dad....still with me?

My wife was a trooper, pregnancy was great...until the last month.  Ever heard your wife scream for you to come help her at 2 AM?  It's the most frightening thing in the world, long story short, airlifted an hour away, she was on bed rest for 3 weeks, THEN had the kid, lost a ton of blood, was scared shitless something was going on there and the kid went to the NICU...I was working in the town an hour away at the time...so it was great for the visiting and work commute, but also crappy at the same time.  You see, I love the hell out of my daughter so I made sure her life was as normal as possible during this time, so I drove back and forth, sometimes twice a day for that month.  It was exhausting, it was worth it, my daughter is amazing, my wife is a super woman, and my son is just awesome.  And that's all I have to say about that.

Image result for that's all i have to say about that

Why was I in Sioux Falls?  Last fall I was told about a job that I went to college for.  I went to school to be on TV.  It had been 11 years since I've done anything in television.  I applied, I got an interview.  I did well in said interview, I met someone I grew up watching on TV, I was content with just that interview.  I got a second interview.  Didn't expect that.  Went to interview, didn't care about it, did a tryout, did really well and had a blast.  I was content with just that interview.

I believe it was a solid 2 week wait.  I was just leaving a job where I did radio stuff, (I'll make a fun comment about that at the end, and really tie this thing together), I had applied at a job where dreams go to die, but I was content to work at a place I was overqualified for and try to be a manager or something, whatever, right?  Right before Christmas I was offered the freaking job on the day I had set aside as The Day of Jeff.  The Day of Jeff consisted of me sleeping in, going to Hu Hot to engorge my face with good, maybe watch Big Trouble in Little China, take a nap and play Super Mario 3.

But no, I was offered the job.  Bad ass...dream job.  I jumped in the air.  11 years of after college madness when it came to my career was over...

Image result for jk gif

The job was fun.  Stressful.  I loved it.  I hated it at times.  I had to commute an hour back and forth each day which was awesome and crappy.  I got to have a lunch with one of my best friends on the regular.  See some people up there I don't usually get to see...oh and host a show where I met a lot of interesting local people.  The downside?  Have you ever had anyone tear apart your personality and looks and it's part of your job?  If you haven't, well boy let me tell you, it was a gas!  Factor in the commute, gas, not making much, and long story short, I got to do my dream job of hosting a show for 6 months....in this insane, crazy year.

I was offered a decent job in my town, 3 minute commute, my soul isn't crushed when I go there every day, so I took it.  One of the hardest decisions of my life when you factor in dream job + not everyone gets to do something like that multiplied by people you barely know asking you about it (STILL) divided by 7.

It's been a year.  Will I ever get to do a TV show again?  Doubt it...unless you're reading this Jeff Kleeman from Hollywood who I will tag on Facebook about this because now besides the insane story idea I sent you, now I have television experience.  Let's get on this...chop chop bud.  I will work for far less than Ellen but more than Carson Daly's assistant.

So that's been my year...oh some other things:

- I get casting emails on the regular for Jeff Kleeman, no I won't accept your head shot anymore TONY!
- I'm in a local ad for Vape God the Vape Store...it's on all the freaking time, yes, that's me.  Also if you hear an annoying jingle for a gas station that sounds like Rick Astley...that is also me.
- I also made the finals of a reality game show where I could've won a million dollars just for guessing songs.

That's been my year.  If you read all of this, thanks, I appreciate it.  If you didn't read this, you're not reading this part at all, but thanks for the click if you left after the Trump comment.

He seriously sucks though, get over yourself Trump supporters, he's a horrible person and if you still support him, more likely than not you are as well.  Drain the swamp...of racists, sexists, homophobes, anti-women's rights jerks, and elected officials who clearly don't care about you.  Stop voting straight ticket for your party.  Try to make things better.  Because the past year you just read about, things are going straight to shit because of the people in charge, and that's more important than if I got my dream job interviewing someone about how they make homemade deodorant.

Am I doing more blogs in the future?  Maybe?  But this would be a hell of a blog to go out on.  This might be my Sgt. Pepper of blogs.  Didn't get that reference?  It's my Empire Strikes Back of blogs?  Didn't get that?  Then I don't know what to tell you.  I honestly don't know how to follow this up, but I don't feel like doing music blogs or NES game reviews anymore.  Maybe I'll write a short story based on things that happened to me, but if you just read all of this, it wouldn't sound real would it?

Thanks for reading, now go read a book or something. - Cowriter

Jeff

PS  Seriously, just re-read this blog...this might be it, it's too ridiculous.

Three Guys Pick Their Favorite Songs of 2018

It's the 10th of December, 2018, year end lists have already started to compile, so we better share ours!

Same thing as last year, myself, Brian Opp and Eric Rasmussen will be choosing our personal top 10 of songs for the year.  Now I don't have a recent picture of just us three, but here's us in about 20-25 years.

Image result for three guys

So I think I'll give Brian Opp the honors of starting this year.  Here is his list, in particular order, 10-1.  (All pictures represented of each person will be over 10 years old...this might get rough!)

Brian Opp's Top 10

And that does it!  Ras's list is amazing.  Tons of amazing rock, he actually has a longer list of the years best music which is incredible.

It's been a while since I've blogged, some have noticed.  It's been a year, but I think we're finally good to blog again more consistently.  The next few blogs will be ones that have been on the back burner for a while, the most underrated big bands is basically written, so that's coming soon.  I really want to do an NES blog again.  I have to write one on how people take fantasy football too seriously, and we have the future, no doubt award winning story, of how I found my dad after 36 years.

As always, thanks for reading, thanks for being awesome, and be ready for a blog explosion the next 2 weeks.

Until next time.

Light My Fire (Favorite, Biggest, Best)

This weeks installment, we are going in a WAY different direction than anyone would've anticipated (sorry Pew, you'll see why Eminem is on hold...for now...we stumbled on something with that album thing....oh and Kris, waiting on GINA for Incubus, like usual!).

Longtime friend and reader of the Kleeman Report (you wanted it named the Kleeman Quarter at one time, remember that?) Katie Clausen everybody!

Image may contain: one or more people and closeup

I bumped in to Katie at D-Days (like three times!) who I haven't seen in a long ass time, and she brought up doing one of these Favorite, Biggest, Best blogs, which with her musical knowledge I thought was a great idea.  Then when she said let's do the Doors, I thought it was an even better idea.  So let's do this...

But first, a brief intro from Katie about the Doors:

So the Doors started in 1965 and obviously Jim Morrison's death (he's a member of the 27 club) ended their commercial success.

Image result for 27 club
What a club, one most shouldn't join...but still, what a club!?
They had 7 top 10 releases during their run.  I feel like everyone has had a Doors phase in their life, so this is a fun band to review.

Image result for the doors

Also- who knows what eccentric Morrison would be like if he was here today?  Camping out with Joan Baez in her tree house, doing interviews you can barely understand with Keith Richards (who also fell out of a tree a few years ago), maybe he'd be a Trump supporter selling AR's off the strip in Vegas? Who knows!?

Jeff Note: Conspiracy theorists believe this may be Jim...um...
Also as a side note, Densmore and Krieger had a post Morrison band called the "Butts Band", which lets be honest, pleases the 12 year old in us all.

Let's start!

Biggest: "Light My Fire"

No surprise here, this song is probably one of the more family friendly, therefore radio friendly, songs the band released. Its not my favorite but it has its place in the sun. It has a very pop vibe which is not surprising since they were still competing with the Beatles at the time for chart space. "Hello, I Love You" was also a huge chart topper for them from the following year.

Best: "Roadhouse Blues

Driving guitar, harmonica, killer piano licks. This song is guaranteed to make you want to party. I'm going to make post D-DAYS Bloody Mary right now. Its a song to be enjoyed with friends.

Favorite: "The End"

Its so hard to choose because the band has such a variety of songs for a variety of moods but I think I have to go with "The End" purely for its shock value. Referencing getting high, Oedipus, and expecting radio play? Cajones, Jim.
There are so many good obscure Doors jams, its hard to compile a list. It was a crazy time for music in the late 1960's and early 70's where bands were supposed to be popular to keep their labels happy but were driven by political and social movements at their core. Pre-YouTube and other forms of exposure they relied on main-stream popularity to prosper financially. Morrison was very disturbed, longed to be a poet, and was living in a time of great social change. The Doors isn't just about Jim either, some really great organ/keys and guitar can be heard in these tracks.

Jeff!  I love this "series", I remember getting the Kleeman Report in my inbox as a Sophomore in my dorm room at the U of M. I think the next phase for the KR should totally be a Verm-centric radio hour.

Thanks for the fun opportunity.

And thank you Katie!  We actually did try a podcast, there are 2 episodes in the can as they say!  But they'll never see the light of day because, um, laziness.  In related news, someone find me somebody to just upload my podcast so I don't have to do work, I'll pay...a little.

So I better get my list in, huh!?

Favorite: Touch Me

This is my favorite Doors song, it's just a good old fashioned time when I listen to it.  I should try this at karaoke sometime, and then get booed offstage Bon Jovi style (Hi Kyle!).

Biggest: Break on Through (To the Other Side)

When you think of the Doors, a lot of things come to mind.

1.  Jim Morrison was a handsome dude ( or still is!).

Image result for jim morrison now

2. Val Kilmer was incredible in the Doors movie.  Seriously check it out if you have an extra three hours sometime.

3.  Break on Through, for me anyway, is the one that pops in my head if I think of the Doors.  It's in my head now just typing the Doors, or seeing an actual door.

You don't even want to know what gets in my head when I see a Stop sign...like 80 songs get in there.

Best: Hello, I Love You

Forrest Gump agrees!  This is the best Doors song ever.

Image result for forrest gump gif

Thanks Forrest.  There are so many to pick from, we omitted so many songs from their extensive library...Riders on the Storm anybody!?  Love Her Madly?  What's up again Forrest!?

Image result for forrest gump gif

So many songs by a great band.  Go listen to them today.  It's Monday, what else do you have to do!?  Thanks to Katie for guest contributing!  Always a pleasure, I'll see you in another 5 years I'm sure!

Next time on the Kleeman Report...

People Who Suck!  But maybe with a better title, maybe People That Kinda Need to Change Things Up a Bit!?  Or Stop What You're Doing! (and then just put the lyrics to the Humpty Dance in it for a huge inside joke).  Or I just don't do that one to not offend anybody, who knows, I'm a wild card.

Image result for always sunny wild card gif

Then Incubus and Eminem in this series next...unless I change my mind...again.  Wild card.

Thanks for reading!

Jeff
